Engagement through the Arts

December 3, 2019

Back in 2012, Carnarvon Community College and Girls from Oz partnered to provide performing arts activities to our young girls. Participation in the arts is a proven way to improve confidence, motivation and a sense of belonging in an environment that highly values team work and encourages the development of leadership. During each term, G-Oz specialist program staff and volunteers visit our school to deliver one week-long Performing Arts Intensive. During their Term 4 visit, staff select 8-10 of the most engaged participants to take part in their annual Travel Program.

Since our partnership with Girls from Oz, our girls have had the chance to visit and perform in various Eastern States and Perth. During the travel program, they meet new people, students from different schools and learn about the various career opportunities that different cities can offer. The travel program has benefited our girls by shifting their educational engagement and confidence. Moreover, the various interstate trips have made them stronger and proud to share their culture and heritage with others.
