Our Upper Primary students are housed in modern, colourful spacious classrooms with teachers having access to the latest interactive technology.
The Years 3-6 students engage in a rich and comprehensive curriculum. The students spend an hour a week with a specialist Digital Technologies and STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering and Mathematics) teacher, Art teacher and Physical Education teacher.
During the year our students participate in interschool sporting events such as cross country, athletics, swimming and team sports. This is an opportunity for the Carnarvon Community College students to demonstrate their sportsmanship and many of the behaviours fitting under our values of Unity, Respect and Success.
Once a term the Year 3-6 girls are privileged to specialist tuition from professional singers and dancers involved in the Girls from Oz program. These professionals, members of the Australian Girls’ Choir, travel from Melbourne and Sydney to visit a selected few isolated schools in Western Australia. During the week the girls work towards a public performance either at a school assembly or community event.
Year 6 student leaders are voted for by the student body towards the end of each year. Year 5 students nominate themselves for the role of Faction Captain and then deliver a speech outlining why they should be selected. Faction Captains are expected to model the school’s values at all times in their various duties around the school.
In Year 4 students take part in a state-wide Gifted and Talented test. Students who are eligible then participate in a Primary Extension and Challenge program. For some part of the year they engage in online programs and attend camps with other students from the Midwest region. We have had a number of our students take part in this specialist gifted and talented program.
