Shooting Stars, an initiative of Netball WA and Glass Jar, aims to use netball and other sports as the vehicle to encourage greater engagement and attendance at school of young Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander girls living in WA’s remote communities and regional towns. This program is funded by the Department of Prime Minister and Cabinet and focuses on schools identified within the Remote Schools Attendance Strategy.
Shooting Stars in Carnarvon started in 2016 and has been an integral program within the school giving support, encouragement and offering a safe space to our Shooting Star girls from years 5 to 12. The program offers students many different skills including netball and basketball training, beauty therapy and dance skills along with a focus on education and wellbeing sessions. Shooting Stars also provides reward experiences for participation each term including, netball carnivals, cultural and leadership camps, community engagement, after school activities, movie nights and lots of other fun activities in and out of school.
Please feel free to contact Bernie Kop, the Program Coordinator, if you have any questions about the program.
